Ep 23: If Intuitive Eating Hasn’t Worked For You, This May Be Why

The idea of Intuitive Eating seems easy enough…but if you’re one of the many that have tried it and haven’t experienced the weight loss you’d hoped for, this episode is for you. 

The concepts of listening to your body and non-judgment around food choices are the parts of Intuitive Eating I love, but there are a couple of places that Intuitive Eating falls short making it far less effective for weight loss than many of us would like. 

Not taking the impact of processed food substances into account limits the utility of Intuitive Eating for weight loss.  Sugar and flour affect our brains in ways other foods don’t.  It doesn’t mean we can’t have them, but we have to think of some foods differently.  And that’s another way Intuitive Eating misses the mark, it limits our decision-making powers.  We can develop the skill of discernment and choice when it comes to food instead of feeling as if we have to give in to every craving our body presents. Making choices (not restricting ourselves) empowers us, and helps us achieve our goals.
